Welcome to Skies Over, a casual MMORPG that takes place in the skies over a world torn apart long ago by a cataclysmic seismic event. The Earth is now completely submerged in treacherous ocean, save for a handful of inexplicably floating islands—undoubtedly kept aloft by echoes of whatever force tore the world apart a hundred years ago.

What remains of civilization is threaded together by brave and adventurous aircraft pilots. Forge your own way through the sky as a trader, poacher, bandit hunter, or something else entirely.

Skies Over is a love letter to the classic 2006 Flash game Skyrates, a pioneering casual game that lives on in the hearts of its players and this project in front of you.

This game is in extremely early pre-alpha stages, and as such this build has vast swathes of missing features and content. Join us on Discord at https://discord.gg/YEhhfyYQZB to follow along and chime in on development!

Gameplay

You play the role of an aircraft pilot weaving your way around the floating islands that dot the planet. Your actions take place in real-time; you are encouraged to make a Route Plan that spans hours or even days, and then log out—go to work, school, or enjoy other games while your pilot carries out the route. On your next log in, you will get a recap of what happened while you were gone, including pockets of action that you can directly engage with.

The game is designed for busy people, and is intended to generate an average of around 30 minutes of 'direct' gameplay per day after a full 24 hour route plan. You are welcome to hang out in the game and watch the clouds and the sea go by, but do not expect blistering edge-of-your-seat action at all times! If you leave the game running in the background, it will alert you when an event requiring your attention takes place.

Notes

💡 By default, the UI will be scaled for a 1440p monitor in near-fullscreen view. If the UI is too large or too small, you can adjust the scale in the settings menu. If you can't access the settings menu because of extreme UI scaling, please press CTRL + HOME to activate the UI scaling tool directly. Move your mouse between the left and right edges of the screen until the UI is a comfortable size, and then click to confirm.

💡 This game uses your browser's IndexedDB API to store some settings and preferences (such as UI scale.) If you switch browsers or clear your browser cache, you may need to re-adjust your settings.
